We know one thing is for sure, carpet is out and Hardwood Floors are in. The type, size and color are another altogether interesting and informative subject.
Between 1990 and 2016 over 100 million square feet of new, replaced or refinished hardwood has been done in US households and commercial buildings. This is largely due to existing home buyers as well as longtime homeowners opting to replace carpet, vinyl and yes, even all that Spanish slate and ceramic tile in kitchens, foyers and bathrooms. Trends are 80% hardwood to sales and 20% all other flooring in the past 3 years, which is a vast switch from prior to 3 years ago.
Why the mass exodus of carpet and tile? It’s warmer and people are more concerned with mold and allergies more than ever. Carpeting is a trap for all sorts of allergens, germs and dirt. Wood is organic, earthy and sends off a harmonious welcoming feeling more so than cold tile or carpeting.
Hardwood comes in hundreds of style, sizes, colors and makes. Trending now is the wide board pre-finished products when installing new. Vogue is showing grey tone finishes in waterfront communities and more modern houses. On the darker side, dark Walnut, Jacobean, Espresso, and Provincial in traditional homes and for smaller homes or apartments a natural finish with no stain.
