What’s the difference between luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile?

Luxury vinyl has a lot to offer the homeowner. It looks great, is very functional, and comes at a great price. It can deliver. But a question remains: tile or plank? What’s the difference? At All Hardwood Floors, we can answer that for you.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury vinyl tile, also known as LVT, comes in a hardened tile format of various sizes. It has a composite tile core that is plastic. It can imitate tile, stone, or brick easily. However, it is a bit tougher to the touch than the plank and not as flexible.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Luxury vinyl plank, also known as LVP, comes in long strips of varying length and width. It is more flexible than LVT, and it has a plastic composite wood core to it. It molds very closely to the subfloor. You can get it to look like any species of wood that you want, with all the details of it in the image.

Qualities of both

Both LVP and LVT are constructed of PVC, a standard construction material. PVC is completely waterproof, so LVP and LVT are the same. Both are entirely resistant to water. They will not warp, ripple, or curl when exposed to water for an extended period.

Which do you prefer?

The only real difference between LVP and LVT is the shape and the format of the vinyl. Do you want a wood look? Then planks are your choice. Do you want a tile look with grout? Then the tile is your choice. Whatever you choose, luxury vinyl can meet your desires.
